Open the Device Manager (by double-clicking System in the Control Panel, clicking the Hardware tab, and clicking the Device Manager button). Right-click the port with the red X next to it. Click Properties. Check the Device Usage drop-down menu at the bottom of the dialog box to ensure that Use This Device (Enable) is selected. If it is not, choose the correct drop-down menu setting and click OK. Restart your computer, and the port should be enabled.
